Since 1976, the United States has recognized November as Native American Heritage Month. This month, along with all times of the year, is when we recognize the important contributions of Native people, rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories around us. Both the City and County of Los Angeles offer a wealth of services to its residents. That being said, there are multiple Native American social service and cultural organizations that you should know about. Some organizations and resources include - Gabrielino Tongva Springs Foundation, Pukuu Cultural Community Services, Red Circle Project, American Indian Resource Center, and more!

Additionally, 211 offers a multitude of resources and support programs for the Native American community. A few of those organizations consisting of:

Native American General Assistance

Provided by: United States Department of Interior Indian Affairs

*There are no fees or geographical restrictions for this service 

This organization provides oversight of federal programs for tribal people and tribal governments in the United States. It distributes funding for social services, welfare assistance, housing, education, and Indian child welfare.

Genealogical Societies

Services from both of these organizations include:

  • Native American general assistance
  • Genealogical societies for the Native American community
  • Tribal enrollment records
  • Specialized information
  • Referral for tribal reservation residents, the Native American community, and Inuit community
