The center provides legal services for low-income residents, including veterans, in Los Angeles County. Clients must meet poverty or low income guidelines. Services include legal representation, tenant rights information/counseling and veterans benefits assistance. The program provides a special focus on assisting female veterans. Geographic restrictions apply for some services.

The center litigates against landlords to improve substandard housing. The purpose of the center is to win court-ordered repairs and money awards for tenants. Its primary service area is metropolitan Los Angeles; however, it will consider cases from areas throughout Los Angeles County. The agency also assists renters with issues ranging from illegal rent increases, harrassment, code violations, etc.

Legal representation for homeless veterans includes help with navigating complex benefits systems, upgrading discharge status, expunging minor criminal records, and avoiding eviction.

The HIV/AIDS Law Project assists individuals who are HIV positive or have AIDS with securing and maintaining affordable housing by providing representation and advocacy services. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Applicants must provide proof of income and residence; however, the agency does serve undocumented clients.

Walk-ins are seen for housing rights issues and government (non-veteran) benefits issues only. Individuals who are veterans and seek benefits assistance or who have HIV/AIDS must call for an appointment. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services; however, the agency may request a contingency fee.
