The agency provides emergency and transitional shelter for homeless families with minor children. Children 17 years and younger are accepted. The program can accommodate pregnant women in any stage who have minor children; people with physical and mental disabilities who are currently in treatment; and alcohol and drug abusers who have been clean and sober for at least twelve months. Residents of Santa Monica or Westside Los Angeles may receive priority, however, there are no geographic restrictions.

The transitional shelter program provides a 21 unit facility with each family occupying a furnished one bedroom apartment with full kitchen and bath. Laundry facilities are available. Each family is responsible for their meals and keeping their living area clean. The house rules include no smoking, alcohol or drugs and a 9:00pm curfew. Case management is required for all residents. Each family is also required to participate in a personalized savings program that they may withdraw upon leaving the program. Residents should be working to qualify as having "stable income" but are assisted in seeking employment and enrolling in classes outside the program. Additional support services include life skills training workshops, mental health counseling, DPSS or SSI advocacy, parenting classes and job training. Bus fare is also available.

The emergency shelter program provides an 18 unit facility with each family occupying a furnished studio with private bath. Laundry facilities are available. Two meals per weekday are provided. The house rules include no smoking, alcohol or drugs and a 9:00pm curfew. Case management is required for all residents. Each family is also required to participate in a personalized savings program that they may withdraw upon leaving the program. Residents are encouraged and assisted in seeking employment and enrolling in classes outside the program. Maximum length of stay is 90 days. Bus fare is also available. APPLICATION PROCEDURE A referral from a social service agency is required; referrals must be made by the case manager who has worked directly with the family. 211 referrals are not accepted.

Applicants cannot call on their own behalf to make appointments. Referrals are accepted for families that have participated in a case management program with a social service agency for at least 30 days. Social security numbers, birth certificates, proof of last residence, proof of income, proof of age and proof of citizenship are required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The program requires participants to save 75% of family's income; the money goes into a savings program and is returned to the client upon completion of the program. Residents may be required to pay for utilities.
