Animal Shelter Attendant Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: CITY OF LOS ANGELES ANIMAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT - EAST VALLEY CARE AND CONTROL

The agency provides volunteer opportunities for individuals age 16 and older who live in the Los Angeles area. Volunteer opportunities include animal shelter attendant volunteer opportunities and clerical volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

Volunteer opportunities include animal care, dog walking and socialization, grooming, greeters, mobile adoptions and support to Animal Care Technicians.

Animal shelter attendant volunteers provide support to Animal Care Technicians in kennels by assisting with cleaning and feeding dogs, cats and exotic animals or livestock. They also assist agency staff with animal adoptions, and provide animal care education and assist the public in the adoption of an animal.

Clerical volunteers assist public by providing information about all aspects of the shelter, including companionship, animal ownership, spay/neuter information, and making literature available to the community. Volunteers also help maintain the literature racks, maintain lost and found boards, and walk through shelter for possible lost and found companion animal identification.

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. For volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17, the agency requires a parent or legal guardian to be present to fill out a liability release form and attend the complete orientation session.

Orientations are held once a month at each of the six animal shelters. During the orientation, the agency provides information about policies, procedures and programs, information about animal behavior and agency jobs available to volunteers.
