Behavioral Learning Therapy ( Youth )

Provider: STAR VIEW COMMUNITY SERVICES - TORRANCE OFFICE

The agency provides community-based mental health services for children and youth age birth through 21 who have serious behavioral problems at home and/or school, and their families in Los Angeles County. Services include developmental screening, individual counseling including dual diagnosis, infant and early childhood mental health, crisis intervention, family preservation, psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring, independent living skills instruction, therapeutic behavioral learning, parent child interactive therapy, and psychiatric case management. Age restrictions apply for some services; there are no geographic restrictions.

A school-based program provides consultation and intervention for students referred to the program. Staff will make home visits and may provide service at other community locations, depending on the client's need. Transportation may also be available.

The Developmental Screening program for children, age birth to six years old, is offered to parents who have concern about the developmental progress of their child. Screening tools, Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) or PEDS:DM, is administered by a multi-disciplinary team in the clinic setting, client's home, preschool, or daycare location. Parents are then provided with the results and recommendations for further services and/or offered education in strategies in working with their child on their skills deficits.

Treatment services include infant/early childhood mental health consultations, individual and family therapy, play-based therapy, Dyadic therapy, parenting education, outpatient mental health, and community outreach. Staff also provide medication and monitoring. The agency works with the entire family including parents, guardians, and siblings during counseling. Staff are trained in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Incredible Years (IY), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

Youth are generally referred by the L A County DCFS, L A County Dept. of Mental Health, L A County DPSS, L A County Probation Dept., schools, foster agencies, and family members. Staff work with teachers, principals and other school personnel to set and achieve goals for students in the program. Group services are also provided after school. Parent and family participation is encouraged and staff use a team approach to providing treatment. Staff establish a case plan and referrals for additional services are provided as needed.

Wraparound Program (TEAMMATES) is conducted by a multi-displinary team consisting of a social worker case manager, a therapist and a parent "Partner". Sessions are conducted in the home and may involve just the child or the whole family as needed. The program accepts youth from age 8 to 18, and may continue for one year or longer. The service area is LA County SPAs 4, 6 and 8. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees vary; Medi-Cal and Healthy Families are accepted.
