The agency provides volunteer opportunities to people living in Los Angeles County. Services include camp counselor volunteer opportunities, child care volunteer opportunities, clerical volunteer opportunities, coaching volunteer opportunities, custodial volunteer opportunities, fundraising volunteer opportunities, receptionist volunteer opportunities and recreational activities volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

Camp counselor volunteers work directly with a cabin of campers supervising all camper activities. Counselors are directly responsible for camper's safety. Camp counselor volunteers commit to eight days and nights at camp leading a group of campers. Volunteers will receive 10 to 12 hours of training a month before camp; no prior experience is necessary. Camp counselor volunteers must be at least 17 years of age, a senior in high school or in college, and committed to the YMCA mission and camping philosophy.

Child care volunteers assist the babysitting aides and manger in all areas of babysitting and help to implement age appropriate curriculum. Child care volunteers will receive training in first aid and infant CPR. Child care volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.

Clerical volunteers assist the agency with administrative services. Clerical volunteers support agency staff in the smooth and efficient operation of the front office so that members receive high quality, prompt and courteous service. Clerical volunteers assist with light typing, filing, copy work and special mailings. Volunteers will receive one to two hours of on the job training; prior experience is not necessary. Clerical volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.

Coaching volunteers help YMCA players have fun and learn skills, discuss fair play in a meaningful way, and support the growth of each player. Coaching volunteers receive training including a Coaches' Clinic and resources throughout the season designed to give each coach the tools needed to do the job. Volunteers should be prepared to commit to participating in the Coaches' Clinic, attending a mid-season coaches' meeting, as well as attending one practice and one game each week. Coaching volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Custodial volunteers participate in general facility and grounds maintenance in preparation for special events and meetings. Volunteers receive one hour on the job training and are asked to commit to serve the agency two to four hours per week. Custodial volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.

Fundraising volunteers help increase the financial support of the agency by raising funds for the YMCA's Annual Current Support Campaign. Volunteers must commit to attend at least one phone night, spend at least 15 hours making personal fundraising calls during a four week period, attend the Kick Off Dinner, attend three report meetings and attend the Victory Dinner. Fundraising volunteers must be at least 17 years of age.

Receptionist volunteers work the Welcome Desk of the Physical Education Department. Receptionist volunteers greet members, guests and program participants. Volunteers receive training in CPR and first aid. Receptionist volunteers must be at least 15 years of age and commit to serve four to eight hours per week.

Recreational activities volunteers act as gymnastics assistants. Recreational activities volunteers aid instructors in set up and break down of equipment, taking roll and warming-up classes. They also assist instructors in teaching gymnastics on all apparatus for kindergym and progressive classes. Volunteers will receive one hour orientation, one hour on the job training, will attended workshops and clinics provided by USAG, and receive video training and manual. Recreational activities volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in to volunteer. Volunteers must complete a written application and an in-person interview and participate in an orientation. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Volunteers are not asked to pay any fees or incur any costs.
