Case/Care Management

Case/Care Management

Provider: CHILDREN'S BUREAU - OAKWOOD RESOURCE CENTER

The agency provides mental health services in the metropolitan Los Angeles area. Services include behavior modification, case/care management, child guidance, developmental assessment, developmental screening, infant and early childhood mental health, women's support groups and wraparound facilitation/community support. Age restrictions apply; there are geographic restrictions for some programs.

The program provides day treatment for children 3 to 6 years of age, individual and family counseling for families with children age 12 and younger who have Medi-Cal or are Medi-Cal eligible; and parent support groups.

The Developmental Screening program for children, age zero to five years, is offered to parents who have concerns about the developmental progress of their child. Children are screened by agency professional staff in the clinic setting, child's home, or preschool location. Parents are then provided with the results and recommendations for further services and/or offered education in strategies in working with their child on their skills deficits.

Medi-Cal eligible youth, 1 to 18 years of age, may receive developmental assessment services and behavior modification therapy through the CHDP program.

Treatment services include outpatient mental health, therapeutic preschool, individual and family therapy, play-based therapy, Dyadic therapy, and parenting education. The agency works with the entire family including parents, guardians, and siblings during counseling. Staff also provide medication and monitoring, and community outreach. Staff are trained in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Incredible Years (IY), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

Developmental assessments are diagnostic evaluations that more deeply evaluate the child's skills in five areas: cognitive, socio-emotional, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and language development.

Counseling is aimed at children who have severe emotional or mental problems and their families; referrals for other services are provided for less serious emotional issues. In-home services include Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) and wraparound services for more severe cases.

The Wraparound facilitation/community support program is provided for court-referred youth in probation or in DCFS child abuse or foster care programs. Wraparound is conducted by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a social worker case manager, a therapist and a parent "Partner". Sessions are conducted in the home and may involve just the child or the whole family as needed. The program accepts youth from age 8 to 18, and may continue for one year or longer. The service area is SPA 1. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply; an appointment is required. Picture ID, child's social security, and Medi-Cal card is required; foster parents must also bring a court order. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for parent support groups. There are fixed fees for counseling services, which are paid by Medi-Cal. Individuals must have Medi-Cal or be Medi-Cal eligible.
