The program provides child abuse services for children of all ages and their families in Los Angeles. Services include child abuse counseling, child abuse prevention, in person crisis intervention, organizational development and management services, and wrap around facilitation/community support. Age requirements apply for some services; there are geographic restrictions for some programs.

Child abuse treatment includes evaluation, treatment and supportive services for children who have been emotionally or physically abused or neglected, and their non-offending family members. Individual, family and group treatment is provided. In addition, the Support Program for Abuse-Reactive Kids (SPARK), offers individual, group and family counseling for abused children who abuse themselves, other children or animals.

Child abuse prevention education is available for court ordered individuals. The program teaches non-offending parents and caregivers how to avoid potentially abusive situations and how to recognize the signs of abuse.

The program also provides crisis intervention counseling for abusive parents and/or abused children, emergency response to victims of domestic violence and their children in cooperation with LAPD (Project ERIN), comprehensive assessments for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), evaluations for the court and testimony in court in child abuse/neglect cases.

Staff provide multidisciplinary physical, developmental, and psychosocial assessments and treatment for children and youth age 0 to 21.

The Wraparound facilitation/community support program is provided for court-referred youth in probation or in DCFS child abuse or foster care programs. Wraparound is conducted by a multi-displinary team consisting of a social worker case manager, a therapist and a parent "Partner". Sessions are conducted in the home and may involve just the child or the whole family as needed. The program accepts youth from age 8 to 18, and may continue for one year or longer. The service area is L A County SPAs 4, 6 and 8.

The program provides technical assistance for professionals who work with abused children. Services are provided through the Children's Institute Leadership Center and include individualized training programs; generic programs open to professionals in the field; and a resource library which contains information about research, treatment methods, and training curricula, as well as audiovisual materials. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply; an appointment is required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are set on a sliding scale that generally starts at $0; no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Private insurance is accepted.
