The center provides mental health services for youth age 18 and younger (depending on insurance limitations), and their families who live in the San Gabriel Valley area. Services include adolescent/youth counseling, behavior modification, community mental health education, child abuse counseling, child guidance, early intervention for children with disabilities/delays, play therapy, family counseling, and crisis intervention. Age restrictions apply; some services are restricted to residents of La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Los Nietos, Whittier, Pico Rivera and Santa Fe Springs.

The agency offers evidence based practices including, Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for parents, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety, Managing and Adapting Practices, Incredible Years for parents with infants, toddlers and early school age children, Aggression Replacement Therapy, and Triple P Positive Parenting Program. The Birth to Five Center provides additional evidence- based practices including Child Parent Psychotherapy and Parents as Teachers.

The types of problems families may seek counseling for include all forms of anxiety, child abuse, depression, parent-child conflict, school problems, acting out at home or in the community, sleep problems, family communication, and adjustment reactions of childhood and adolescence. Children must be exhibiting serious symptoms to qualify for service.

Families come to the center for assistance with a wide variety of personal, family, or social adjustment problems. Staff meet with the family by appointment, evaluate the problem, develop a treatment plan, and schedule regular appointments. A variety of treatment modalities may be utilized, as needed: psychiatric evaluations, psychological tests, developmental screenings, parenting groups, infant massage, case management, intensive day treatment, foster care assessment, school-based counseling, and medication may also be employed, if appropriate.

Outpatient therapy may be individual, family, and group therapy. The center also provides a short term, crisis intervention program of eight sessions for children in immediate crisis. The program includes intensive outpatient services for children, ages 6 to 12. The center also provides an intensive 5 day-a-week day treatment program for children age 7 to 9 for children in foster care. The program provides medication assessment and management, and specialized foster care services. The day treatment program provides transportation from the schools to the center.

In addition, the center offers periodic community education seminars and workshops on family and mental health-related topics, and also provides consultation services for other agencies. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for an appointment; youth and parents must meet eligibility requirements to qualify for services. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Medi-cal and private insurance is accepted. A fee for service program is available.
