Classroom Training ( Disabilities and Health Conditions, Adolescents )

Provider: ANTELOPE VALLEY UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT - WE CARE TRANSITION PROGRAM

The program provides classroom training and on-the-job opportunities for adolescents with disabilities, age 14 to 21, who live in the Antelope Valley Union High School District; and for out of school youth in Los Angeles County.

The district provides a Regional Occupational Program for students 16 years and older. ROP programs provide a wide variety of vocational education options. The WE CARE/Transition program provides classroom training and on-the-job opportunities for adolescents with disabilities, age 14 to 21, who live in the Antelope Valley Union High School District; and for out-of-school youth in Los Angeles County. The Youth Employment Skills/YES program, a part of the WE CARE/Transition program, provides Special Education for youth with skills necessary to seek and retain employment. The skills include Pre-Employment Work Maturity (basic job search and retention skills), Basic Skills Training (reading and math instruction for youth testing below ninth grade level), and Job Specific Skills (task training for entry-level occupations). The length of the training is one year of classroom training for in-school youth and a paid, on-the-job training program. Occupations for which placement has been provided include child care, clerical, construction, electronic assembly, food service, maintenance, receptionist, recreation, and retail sales. Not every occupation is available at all times.

The district also provides a Career Technical Education/Regional Occupational Program for students 16 years and older. CTE/ROP programs provide a wide variety of Career Technical Education options. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply; an appointment is required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
