Crime Victim Accompaniment Services

Crime Victim Accompaniment Services ( Child Trafficking Victims )

Provider: BIKERS AGAINST CHILD ABUSE

This is a biker membership organization that provides child abuse services by supporting children of all ages who have been abused in Los Angeles and surrounding counties. The child's case must have been reported to a mandated reporter or to law enforcement. Services include crime victim accompaniment services for abused children and child trafficking victims. Members must pass a background check, have ridden with the B.A.C.A chapter for a minimum of one year, and have received special instructions from a licensed mental health professional. This is the Los Angeles chapter; other counties and states may be served by different chapters. There are no geographic restrictions.

Volunteer members work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. Social service agencies, police, teachers, counselors, parents or legal guardians may refer a child for assistance. The Child Liaison verifies the case and contacts the child's family to arrange an initial visit in the home or at a public place where the child feels safe. Members from the chapter ride to meet the child and provide a vest with a B.A.C.A patch.

Following this visit, the child is given the name and number of two B.A.C.A members, to contact anytime they feel scared or need support. Members may also provide accompaniment services to court hearings or other appointments. The agency also holds barbecues, parties or other functions for children to attend. All visits and arrangements are made with the permission of the child's parents or guardians.
