Developmental Assessment

Provider: ABLE (ASSOCIATION FOR BETTER LEARNING EXPERIENCES)

Services are being provided virtually due to Coronavirus. Please call for more information.

The agency provides therapeutic and educational services for people with developmental disabilities for infants and toddlers from birth to age five, including those with disabilities. Services include developmental assessment, developmental disabilities behavior management programs, pediatric occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language pathology. There are no geographic restrictions.

The services are individualized for each child following assessment by therapists and teachers and may include behavior, physical, speech, and occupational therapy consultation. Families with typically developing children are also welcome. Therapeutic services may be provided for children enrolled in the infant/toddler program.

Physical therapy services help the child develop motor skills like crawling and walking so that each child can attain his or her potential, gain strength, prevent deformities, and decrease pain. The therapist and family work as a team in these activities. The physical therapist also assesses the need for assistive devices.

The speech and language program provides services for children who have communication disorders which may be associated with delayed language development, cerebral palsy, cleft palate, aphasia, vocal disorders, hearing loss, and autism and other emotional disturbances.

Pediatric occupational therapy services focus on upper extremity use and fine motor skills and stress mastery of activities of daily living which are appropriate for the child's age, developmental level, and physical and cognitive abilities. The goal is to promote independence; parents are involved in the activities and are also helped to provide appropriate clothing, toys, and equipment.

The toddler program is for children and their families; it provides a variety of learning activities. Parents are offered information about the child's learning at home. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for general information. Special needs children may be referred for assessment and services by Regional Center; families may also self-refer.
