Disability Related Transportation
Provider: CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - MISSION CITY TRANSIT DIAL-A-RIDE
The program provides curb-to-curb public transportation for people who live or work in the city of San Fernando. Services include disability related transportation, general paratransit/community ride programs and medical appointments transportation. Services are restricted to San Fernando residents.
Two vans, which are lift-equipped, pick up passengers at any location in the city and transport them to other locations in the city or to certain nearby medical facilities including Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, Indian Hills Medical Center in Mission Hills, Kaiser Hospital in Panorama City, Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sepulveda. The program serves people of all ages, but young children may be required to be accompanied by an adult. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to schedule a trip. Riders are encouraged to call to schedule trips in advance, if possible. When requesting a pickup, give the operator the pickup location, destination, and number of passengers. There is generally a 20 to 40 minute wait; passengers must be ready to leave when the van arrives as the driver cannot wait longer than five minutes. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The fee is 50 cents for senior citizens age 60 and older or for people who have disabilities for medical and nutrition trips. The fee for the general public is 75 cents. Exact fare or a fare ticket are required. Ten-Trip tickets are available for $5.00 at San Fernando City Hall, Recreation Park, and Las Palmas Park.
