Disability Related Transportation

Provider: CITY OF TORRANCE TRANSIT DEPARTMENT

The agency provides transportation services to residents of Torrance who are age 65 and up or persons with disabilities of any age. Services include disability related transportation, local bus services, and senior ride programs. Geographic restrictions apply.

The program provides curb-to-curb, round-the-clock taxi service for patrons of the Torrance Community Transit Program (TCTP).

To be eligible, people must register for the service and present proof of age and/or residency; tickets must be purchased in advance. After being approved, they may call the reservation number at any time to request a taxi, which will arrive within 25 minutes.

People purchase non-refundable advance tickets which they use to pay for the taxi ride. Each ticket has a value of up to $13.00 in taxi fare. Patrons may purchase a maximum of 12 tickets once a month. Riders fill in the information asked for on the ticket for each trip they take. Tickets may only be used by the person who purchased them. Riders are asked to call to request a taxi at least 25 minutes before the desired pick up time. They give the dispatcher their name, the pick up address, phone number, the address of the destination, and state whether they are a Senior Taxi or Dial-A-Taxi patron. Patrons may be accompanied by another attendant. APPLICATION PROCEDURE To register for the program, residents may go to the West Annex Transit Center located at 3031 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, 90503. The nearest cross street is Madrona Ave. The information/tickets number listed is at that site. Verification of age and/or residency are required to register for the program. Dial-A-Taxi patrons must have their application signed by their physician.

All ticket orders are processed through the mail. Participants must include a check with their name and a self-addressed stamped envelope. All orders should be mailed to West Annex Transit Center, 3031 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503.
