The focus of the sessions may be on problems and stresses of living, such as parenting, parent-child conflict, family communication, marital problems, divorce, stepfamily adjustments, school problems, adjustments of childhood or adolescence, retirement, grief and bereavement; pre-marital issues; on a specific crisis; or on alcohol or drug use, especially by adolescents.
Staff meet with the client(s) to assess the problems and to develop a treatment plan which may utilize several counseling modalities. Staff can also refer people who are not appropriate for clinic services or who can benefit from additional support to other community resources.
The support groups offered by the agency form in response to client interest and need.
A teen support group is available which assists adolescents to develop positive self-esteem, responsibility, and decision-making skills which enable them to deal with peer pressure and to make mature decisions.
Parenting skills classes are offered to help parents find more effective and supportive ways of dealing with discipline.
Other groups are offered, as needed, that focus on areas like assertiveness, grief, incest survivors and general support. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply. An appointment is required. People may also call who are interested in a referral for related community resources. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There is a flat intake fee of $25. Fees are on a sliding scale based on the family's income. Private insurance is accepted on a limited basis. Medi-Cal and Medicare may be accepted for counseling.
