Domestic Violence Shelters

Domestic Violence Shelters ( Males )

Provider: YWCA OF SAN GABRIEL VALLEY WINGS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM

The program provides shelter for battered women and men, with or without children up to age 18; including lesbians, individuals who are undocumented, pregnant, or who have disabilities. The shelter may not be able to accommodate people who are admitted drug abusers, are exhibiting behavior that is considered dangerous to themselves or others, and those receiving immediate medical or nursing care. Services are targeted, but not restricted, to residents of the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County Supervisorial District V. There are no geographic restrictions.

Individuals are not permitted to leave the shelter for the first 72-hours upon arrival; those who work are asked to obtain a 2 week leave of absence from their employer. If there are prior commitments such as medical or legal appointments arrangements will be made. For reasons of safety, those who live in or work in the immediate area of the shelter will be given a referral to a shelter in another area.

Support services include TRO assistance, group and individual counseling, welfare advocacy, court accompaniment and parent education. Counseling is also provided for residents' children. Residents are expected to honor shelter rules and to participate with daily chores. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Individuals and referring agencies must call the hotline to apply; hotline staff will conduct an assessment to determine shelter eligibility. The shelter arranges transportation from a designated location. No ID is required. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
