Early Intervention for Children With Disabilities/Delays

The program provides services for children age birth to 36 months with developmental delay or disabilities in the State of California. Services include the administration of early intervention services to lessen or prevent developmental delays through a network of Regional Centers, local education agencies, and Family Resource centers; see the separate entries. The agency is responsible for the implementation of Part C of the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the coordination of early intervention services. There are no geographic restrictions.

The services include in-home visits, developmental assessments, consultation, service coordination, parenting skills training and assistance in utilization of needed community health and education resources. The agency is also responsible for implementing procedural safeguards that insure the rights of children and families, and for receiving and resolving complaints about Early Start services.

The BabyLine number (800) 515-BABY provides information about disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related developmental conditions and California's Early Start system as well as family resource centers across the state.
