Education Savings Accounts

Provider: CITY OF LOS ANGELES HOUSING AND COMMUNITY INVESTMENT DEPARTMENT

The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) has established the Opportunity LA Children's Savings Account Program for first grade students in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The program will automatically open a college savings account with an initial $50 deposit for every student entering first-grade at an LAUSD elementary school. The program WILL NOT impact any public benefits that the family might have. The program is only available to families within the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The program is a partnership among the City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles, and LAUSD. It is offered on a year-to-year basis and will continue beyond the current school year at the discretion of the program.

Parents will have options to contribute funds into their children's account. Based on funding availability, there will also be opportunities to earn additional funds through incentives that students can participate in.

Participation & Eligibility
To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled for first grade at an LAUSD elementary school. Parents will automatically receive a welcome packet that provides details and directions about the program.

Account Registration
An account card with a pre-preprinted account number will be included in the welcome packet. A parent or legal guardian must register the student's account using the account number at http://mysavingsaccount.com/account/ola,
