Emotional Issues Support Groups

This is a 12-step mutual support recovery program for people of all ages who feel that their emotions are interfering with their functioning and who want to achieve greater emotional health. The program is based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous and provides regular meetings, study and discussion of 12-step literature, working with a sponsor, and volunteering service to Emotions Anonymous (EA). It is designed to assist people from any background who have mild to severe emotional and mental problems work toward and maintain their recovery.

People participate in the EA program to learn how to cope with symptoms like panic, anxiety, depression, abnormal fears, resentment, jealousy, loneliness, low self-esteem, and obsessive and negative thinking. People may attend meetings as often as they like; members share experiences, listen to others who have similar problems, and discuss the steps of recovery. Members remain anonymous; the atmosphere is non-judgmental and accepting of everyone and there is no confrontation. Each member develops his or her own individual daily program which guides him or her in coping with emotional difficulties between meetings and members are available to each other by phone when support is needed. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH None; some literature available in Spanish from the St. Paul office. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for recorded information about the locations and times of meetings in different areas. People may also write for information. While people may attend meetings without prior contact with the organization it is suggested that they call to confirm meeting locations and times which may change periodically. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees or dues.
