The program provides legal services to low-income individuals on matters involving federal Indian law. Income restrictions apply. There are no geographic restrictions.
The program provides legal counseling and representation with issues of federal Indian law. The types of cases it handles include civil rights, energy, freedom of religion, hunting and fishing rights, Indian Child Welfare Act, jurisdictional disputes, land, taxation, water and important aspects of tribal sovereignty.
The program may sometimes represent individuals who do not meet the financial criteria. Certain allowable extraordinary expenses may be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine financial eligibility. The program also represents income-eligible tribes that can pay on fee-for-service basis. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply. Clients must provide proof that they are within 125% or 187.5% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for clients who meet the income eligibility guidelines. Fees for services for those who do not meet income eligibility guidelines.
