Fundraising Event Volunteer Opportunities

Fundraising Event Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The organization provides volunteer opportunities to individuals living of Los Angeles County. Volunteer opportunities include clerical volunteer opportunities, conference exhibit assistant volunteer opportunities, fund raising event volunteer opportunities, grant development volunteer opportunities, individual/group advocacy volunteer opportunities, language translation/interpretation volunteer opportunities, lobbying volunteer opportunities and public speaking volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

Clerical volunteers work in the agency's Westminster office on a continual or occasional basis, answering telephones, typing, collating, putting together packets of information, photocopying, etc. The agency has occasional "weekend work parties" for newsletter distribution, special program events, and fund raising projects.

Conference exhibit volunteers work on weekdays and/or weekends to distribute a variety of informational literature, answer the public's questions about MADD programs and services at high schools, community events, fairs, and conventions.

Fund raising event volunteers and grant development volunteers help the agency raise funds for MADD Southern California's free programs and services. Fund raisers assist in obtaining prizes and donated goods/services for special events and programs. The agency seeks volunteers who have a special skill or gift for fund raising, or grant writing, or experience with soliciting underwriting from local businesses and individuals.

Individual/group advocacy volunteers provide emotional support to victims of drunk driving collisions who contact MADD. Victim advocates attend court sessions with victims, act as a liaison with families, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies. The agency provides training and asks for a minimum one year commitment.

Language/translation volunteers translate materials from English to Spanish and assist with public speaking.

Lobbying volunteers must have e-mail access and be interested in following legislation through committees to adoption. Lobbying volunteers are needed to write letters to local legislators on impaired driving issues.

Public speaking volunteers help increase public education through awareness to the dangers of drinking and driving and about MADD's free of charge programs and services. Public speaking volunteers represent MADD in schools, at special community events and functions and to civic groups. Day and evening speaking engagements are available, day-time flexibility is required. Volunteers do not have to be a victim of a drunk driving incident to be considered for this position. Volunteers receive a two part training session. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or visit the agency website. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Volunteers are not required to pay any fees or incur any costs.
