General Counseling Services

The center provides counseling services for people of all ages in the San Fernando Valley area. Services include adolescent/youth counseling, bereavement counseling, general counseling services, family counseling, geriatric counseling, health problems counseling, individual counseling, conjoint, marriage counseling, parent counseling, perinatal/postpartum depression counseling, premarital counseling, and volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

The agency does not provide services for people whose primary problem is alcohol or drug abuse or who are chronically and severely mentally ill.

The focus of counseling may be on common problems of living and relating, on specific crises, or on personal development and enrichment and may include issues like family communication, premarital issues, marital problems, step-family problems, parent-child conflict, problems related to adolescence, problems related to aging, grief and bereavement, anxiety, and depression.

The Parenting Group is a seven-session parenting skills development discussion group for parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Topics discussed include communication, developing responsibility, anger, setting limits, problem solving, feelings, and consequences.

For volunteer opportunities the agency also trains, supervises, and utilizes students and people from the community who are interested in providing counseling, and recruits mental health professionals who train and supervise the paraprofessionals. APPLICATION PROCEDURE All counseling services are available by appointment only. People may call to request service or may be referred. People who are interested in volunteering to be trained or to provide professional supervision may also call. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The center charges an initial intake fee for counseling of $30. Service fees are on a sliding scale based on family income per session. Parenting group fees are $70 for one person and $105 for two for the seven-week program. For the volunteer opportunities there is a donation for participation in the counseling training program.
