General Paratransit/Community Ride Programs

Provider: CITY OF CARSON COMMUNITY SERVICES - TRANSPORTATION SERVICES DIVISION - DIAL-A-RIDE PROGRAM

The agency provides transportation services to Carson residents who are age 60 and older or who are between the ages of 18 and 59 who have a physical, mental or developmental disability that prevents them from using public transportation. Services include disability related transportation, general paratransit/community ride programs, and senior ride programs. There are geographic restrictions.

Registered users may use a swipe card to travel to destinations within the City of Carson for any reason and to go to specific satellite locations facilities in surrounding areas of Gardena, Harbor City, Lomita, Long Beach, San Pedro, and Torrance.

The program provides services through a contract with a taxi company; there are taxi mini-vans available that are lift-equipped for people who use wheelchairs. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for information; registration is done in person Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, at the Juanita Millender McDonald Community Center at the address above. Applicants must be able to provide proof of age, residence and/or disability. Individuals must provide a current DMV license and utility bill or bank statements. Both pieces of identification must have the same address. No Post Office Box addresses will qualify. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There is a $10 application fee for the taxi ID Card and a $10 fee for a replacement card. A rider may purchase up to 20 trips per month for $40. Each one-way trip costs $2. There is a $20 cap per trip. If the trip costs over that amount, the rider must pay out of pocket.
