Health Insurance Information/Counseling

Health Insurance Information/Counseling

Provider: COVERED CALIFORNIA

Covered California is a health insurance marketplace that was created to help implement the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Services include health insurance information and counseling. This is a statewide program; there are no geographic restrictions.

Through Covered California both individuals and small businesses can compare and purchase different health insurance plans online, over the phone, or in person. Staff will assist them to find the right insurance option for their budget.

Individuals will be able to compare different health insurance plans and learn if they qualify for federal financial assistance, such as tax credits, that will reduce the amount they will pay each month on a sliding scale, based on income. They will also be able to find out if they are eligible for health programs such as Medi-Cal.

Employers with fewer than 25 full-time workers will be able to find out if they qualify for a small business tax credit that can help cover the cost of providing employee health care.

Individuals that have questions about healthcare coverage and IRS penalties can visit www.healthcare.gov/exemptions to find out if they qualify for an exemption based on their situation. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or visit the agency's website for information or to apply. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for informational services; insurance fees will be set on a sliding scale based on income.
