HIV Testing

HIV Testing

Provider: EAST VALLEY COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER - POMONA

The center provides HIV/AIDS services for people of all ages who live, primarily, in the East San Gabriel Valley. Services include AIDS screening and treatment, HIV prevention and L A County contract clinic services for AIDS/HIV patients. Age restrictions apply for some services; there are no geographic restrictions.

HIV services include outpatient medical care, case management, and mental health services (individual and group). Anonymous/confidential testing for the HIV antibody is offered by appointment for people age 12 and older from any geographical area. Pre-test counseling and education about the test and AIDS are provided; the person returns in a week, by appointment, for the results and post-test counseling and referral, if necessary. Also available is the rapid HIV test.

The agency also offers the HIV/AIDS Pep/PrEP program that provides emergency post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment for people who have had a high risk exposure to HIV/AIDS, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment for people who have high-risk HIV/AIDS exposure. PEP treatment includes a 28 day course of antiretroviral medication, usually in pill form. Treatment must start within 72 hours of exposure. PrEP includes a daily medication to reduce the risk of HIV infection.

The agency participates in the L A County Healthy Way L A Contract Clinic program with additional support from the Ryan White Foundation. The program provides primary care health coverage for low income people ages 19 to 64, who are L A County Residents, US Citizens, or are legal immigrants and who are not eligible under insurance plans, or other third party coverage such as Medi-Cal. Income must be at or below 133% of Federal Poverty Level.

The center enrolls patients for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), which provides FDA-approved HIV-related drugs at little or no cost to those who are eligible; call for more information. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply; an appointment is required for most services. Call the county PEP/PrEP warmline or visit www.getprepla.com for PEP/PrEP information. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The agency has set fees for most health services and Medi-Cal is accepted. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.

Fees vary for PEP/PrEP services; Medicare, Medi-Cal and private insurance are accepted. PEP/PrEP drug assistance plans may be available for low-income people without health insurance.
