The agency provides community services in the Antelope Valley and surrounding communities, including agencies operating in southern Kern County. Services include organizational and technical assistance, networking and relationship building support, information technology assistance, fund raising and financial assistance, and other support services for local non-profit organizations. the agency also provides home maintenance and minor repair services and home barrier evaluation/removal services for low-income households in Antelope Valley. Geographic restrictions apply for some services.

Networking meetings are held monthly for member agencies to share goals and problem solve. AVPH also provides training opportunities and offers modest grants to organizations to get established.

Public awareness/education includes promoting community wellness programs such as Healthy Homes, Welcome Baby, Lancaster HEAL Zone Partnership, Safe Routes to School, Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention Program (NEOP), and Wellness Homes.

The handyworker program strives to upgrade the condition of homes, including mobile homes, in the Antelope Valley area. Priority is given to low and moderate income resident homeowners and their families with issues of safety and habitability. Home repairs may include repair of broken windows; heating and air conditioning (no replacement); installation of locks or smoke detectors; floor, tile or wall repairs; minor plumbing and electrical work; and other light repairs related to health and safety. The program may also assist with installation of grab bars, locks, and wheelchair ramps. All work is done by agency staff. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to apply. ID, proof of income, and proof of residency and ownership are required for the handyworker program. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
