The agency maintains and provides consumer credit records and ratings on consumers in Los Angeles County. Services include helping consumers, lending institutions and/or credit card issuers obtain copies of their credit reports; correction of erroneous information in credit records that could have a negative effect on an individuals credit ratings.

The agency also provides assistance for consumers who want to register complaints regarding inaccurate or obsolete credit reports or ratings, illegal divulgence of credit information, unethical or improper conduct of personnel or other inappropriate business practices.

Individuals who suspect they are, or are about to be, the victim of identity theft, can place a Fraud Alert with credit reporting agencies. A Fraud Alert lets creditors know to contact the individual before opening new accounts.

Individuals can restrict access to his or her credit report by putting a "freeze" on their credit. In that way, potential creditors and other third parties will not be able to get access to an individual's credit report unless the individual lifts the freeze. For more information, contact the agency directly. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to apply. To receive a personal credit report by mail, send the following info: Your name, address, city, state, zip code, social security number, date of birth, spouse, home telephone and drivers license along with two proofs of a current mailing address, such as copies of a driver's license, utility bill, bank or insurance statement, etc.

You may also apply for a free credit report that does not include your credit score, by applying online at www.annualcreditreport.com, by phone at 877-322-8228 or by mail at Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
