Individual Counseling

Individual Counseling

Provider: COUNSELING WEST

The program provides counseling services for people ages 5 and older who live in the San Fernando Valley and the Greater Los Angeles area. Services are directed primarily at adults and include a variety of counseling services and spousal abuse prevention. There are no geographic restrictions.

Counseling services include individual, conjoint, and family counseling about a variety of problems which may include grief, marital difficulties, premarital issues, family communication, domestic violence, parent-child conflict, adjustments of childhood and adolescence, parenting, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and depression. Staff assess the problem with the people involved, arrive at an agreement about long-term and short-term counseling goals, and work with the individual and/or family to explore alternative ways to communicate and resolve problems.

In addition, staff work with young people and their families who are referred for intensive, short-term diversion counseling in an effort to assist the young person to avoid involvement with the juvenile justice system. People who agree to be referred for diversion attend a minimum of six focused, crisis-oriented counseling sessions; recommendations are made at the end of that period for further counseling or other services, if appropriate.

The program also provides community mental health education. Agency staff are available to speak to community groups about a variety of mental health and family-related topics. APPLICATION PROCEDURES Call for information or to make an appointment. Individuals are encouraged to first fill out an intake form on the agency website. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are set on a sliding scale that ranges from $40 to $95 and is based on income. The agency WILL NOT accept individuals who cannot pay for service.
