Information and Referral Volunteer Opportunities

Information and Referral Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR VICTIM ASSISTANCE

The agency provides volunteer opportunities to individuals who are at least 18 years of age living in the United States. Services include crisis intervention volunteer opportunities, and information and referral volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.

Crisis intervention volunteer opportunities are available in the agency's National Crisis Response Team. The agency maintains a 7,000 person database of volunteers each of whom is available to provide crisis intervention services during a national crisis such as a tornado, a hurricane, or a terrorist attack. In some instances, the agency may need volunteers who live in one part of the country, to provide services in another part of the country; in these instances, the agency will reimburse the volunteer for their transportation and lodging.

All volunteers who wish to join the National Crisis Response Team must be 18 years of age and complete the agency's advanced 40 hour training package. Additionally, the volunteer must be working toward completing the 42 hour Events class, as well as the 50 hour Training of Trainers (T.O.T.) class. There are some costs associated with the Events class and the Training of Trainers class. The agency does not ask the volunteer to incur any other costs, nor does the agency complete background checks. The agency does check references. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call, write, or visit the agency's website to become a volunteer. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE To become a member of the National Crisis Intervention Team, volunteers must take two certification class: the Events class fee is $400, and the Training of Trainers (T.O.T.) class fee is $750.
