Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH - COMPTON MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

The center provides employment services for adults who receive mental health services. The program accepts DMH clients and clients of private mental health providers. Services include a job club, job development, a job bank, job search/placement services, prejob guidance and post-placement support services. There are no geographic restrictions.

The work center assists clients with job-related skills such as communication and problem solving; choosing a suitable vocational training program; getting a job; and getting financial assistance for training and materials. Staff occupational therapists provide vocational assessment services. The job club provides mutual support groups for job seekers and ongoing support for clients to maximize job retention. People who are co-enrolled with the Department of Rehabilitation may be eligible for OJT, job coaching services, and the cost of tools and work clothes. Employers who hire program participants qualify for tax incentives.

The program also provides ADA implementation assistance to employers who wish to hire mentally-disabled participants or to inquire about ADA requirements in the workplace. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Walk in for service. DMH clients who need employment services are referred to the Work Center in their mental health center. People who have private mental health providers are asked to provide proof of their mental health status from a licensed clinician. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
