On the Job Training ( Chronic/Severe Mental Illness )

Provider: PORTALS MENTAL HEALTH REHABILITATION SERVICES

This agency provides employment services for chronically mentally ill adults age 18 and older. Services are targeted, but not restricted, to people who are in South Central Los Angeles, Mid-Wilshire, and Central Los Angeles.

The program includes pre-employment work adjustment classes, employment and volunteer opportunities.

The Community Connections employment services include prevocational training in one of three units: Cooking, maintenance and clerical. The program accepts youth, age 17 and older, and will work with the school to develop a program for each person. The length of the training is 3 to 6 months. People may transfer from one unit to another, if desired. Job developers find unsubsidized work with community employers for graduates of the training programs.

Workforce Unlimited is an employment program for Portals members. The program provides employment opportunities and on-the-job vocational training.
