The agency provides library services for individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include law libraries and library services. There are no geographic restrictions.

Services include a collection of books and additional audio and microform materials which are needed in the practice of law and in conducting legal research, as well as a telephone reference service. Staff can search several computer assisted data bases for people who are involved in legal research and who make an advance reservation.

Library staff do not do legal research, give legal opinions or advice, or comment on or explain the meaning of a text.

To qualify as borrowers people must apply and meet specific criteria. Residents of Los Angeles County, members of the State Bar who maintain local offices, and legal or other business entities which maintain offices in the county must provide identification, pay a deposit and an annual borrowing fee.

Judges of state or federal courts which are located in the county and people who hold public office in the county who verify that they engage in legal work in the course of their official duties also qualify. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call, fax or walk-in for information or to request service. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There is a $400 deposit and no annual fee for legal or business firms, and a $140 deposit and no annual fee for individual residents who want to borrow materials from the library. The fees for photocopies and FAX requests vary. Fines are charged for overdue or lost materials.
