Legislative Advocacy

Provider: PROJECT RETURN PEER SUPPORT NETWORK

The program provides mental health services for people who are recovering from mental illness. Services include helplines/warmlines, legislative advocacy, mental health related support groups, psychiatric resocialization, online support groups, and respite care. There are no geographic restrictions.

Support meeting are held in clinics, churches, community centers and residential care facilities located throughout Los Angeles County. The meetings are run by individuals who have been diagnosed with a mental illness, and who have been consumers of mental health services. A variety of social and recreational activities include personal grooming, exercise, picnics, dances, holiday parties and field trips.

The agency also runs training programs for those interested in becoming peer advocates or improving their skills.

Un Paso Mas and El Centrito de Apoyo, provide support services to the Latino community for both individuals and family members of those with mental health issues.

Hacienda of Hope and Hope Well offer a respite care home and integrated services management referral service co-located in Long Beach. The respite care home takes individuals who are working a program, for a short period of time, offering a place to recover without hospital intervention. Individuals may stay from 1 to 5 days and must have a residence to return to. This program cannot accommodate children and individuals must be over 18 years of age.

The "Warmline" is a project of the agency that provides helpline counseling through a non-emergency talkline/warmline for people who are in need of a friendly contact after-hours. The program is run by consumers for consumers of mental health services. It is not a crisis line, but meant to provide social support and is sometimes known as the Friendship Line. Staff are trained in emergency protocols, however. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for more information.

Hacienda of Hope and Hope Well cannot take individuals who are not able to physically take care of themselves, or individuals who are sex offenders. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees. Individual clubs may vote to have dues paid to the club treasury.
