Parent Counseling

Provider: NEW DIRECTIONS

The agency provides domestic violence services for adults and adolescents, ages 13 to 80, in Los Angeles County. Services include anger management, child abuse counseling, group counseling, individual counseling, and parenting education. The program is court approved and accepts both court and self-referred individuals. Documentation from the court is required, if an individual is court referred. There are no geographic restrictions.

The domestic violence course is typically a 52 week program on anger management. The program meets once per week and focuses on various strategies for redirecting anger.

Referrals for shorter counseling programs can be accommodated. Self-referred clients may choose individual or group anger management sessions; the length can be determined by the client and therapist.

Parenting and child abuse counseling focuses on behavior modification and involves learning new parenting skills. Parenting development involves learning non-violent, alternative discipline strategies; communication skills, and setting goals for both children and parents. The agency provides sessions for adults and juveniles. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk-in to make an appointment. An appointment is required to receive service. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE The agency accepts fees and some private insurance plans. There is a $40 enrollment fee, and a $25 per week fee for anger management classes.
