Psychiatric Case Management

The center provides outpatient mental health evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention and support services for chronically and severely mentally ill adults age 18 and older who live in the Inglewood Health District which includes the cities of El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Westchester and parts of Los Angeles located west of the Harbor Freeway and south of Manchester. In addition, the agency offers phone and walk-in crisis intervention and psychiatric emergency services.

The evaluation services include screening for voluntary and involuntary hospitalization and medication. The treatment services include short-term individual, family, and group therapy; medication supervision; a social rehab program; and programs that assist recovering mentally ill people to return to the community. In addition, counseling, case management, and supportive services are provided for adults who have been discharged from state, county, and county-contract psychiatric hospitals to help them make the transition back to the community and prevent rehospitalization. The agency also offers support groups for family and friends of mentally ill people through referral to the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (see the separate entry).

The agency also provides an MHSA funded Wellness Center to provide services and support to mental health clients who are in recovery and no longer need intensive mental health services. The Wellness Center provides self-help mental health support groups; peer to peer support groups; social/recreational activities; medication evaluation and support services; employment and education services, and integrated services and support for co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse.

In addition the centers provide physical health screenings, and assistance with referrals to health care providers. The program also provides healthy living and health management education. Referrals are given for, housing possibilities, benefit maintenance and short term or crisis mental health services.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for service. After hours crisis calls are rolled over to the department's 24 hour, seven days per week ACCESS unit. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are on a sliding scale; Medi-Cal, Medicare, and private insurance are accepted. No one is refused service based on inability to pay.
