The agency provides services for adults age 50 and older who live in the greater Long Beach area. Services include certificates/forms assistance, health screening/diagnostic services, job search/placement, legal counseling, paratransit vouchers, senior centers, specialized information and referral, tax information, thrift shops, volunteer opportunities, and will preparation assistance. There are geographic restrictions.

The agency also houses a congregate meal and nutrition programs provided by Human Services Association for seniors age 60 and older (see the separate entry). It also provides a food distribution program for seniors age 50 and older. The Food Finders program which is weekly, the Brown Bag program which is twice a month and the Community Action Partnership of Orange County program which is monthly.

The center sells Long Beach Transit bus passes to seniors, operates a Cafe and thrift shop, and also sponsors a gift boutique. It offers a variety of opportunities for volunteer involvement. The center does not provide transportation to and from activities directly, but can refer seniors to transportation programs in the community.

The 4th Street Senior Clinic is operated by St. Mary Medical Center. The clinic is available for seniors age 50 and older. It offers doctor's appointments, referral to specialists, physical exams, lab and pharmacy.

Taxi vouchers are available for seniors through FAME given as needed until run out. Vouchers are also mailed out until gone.

Tax preparation assistance is offered through AARP and is offered from February through April 15th.

The Traditional Legal Assistance Program (TLAP) provides legal assistance including general counseling, benefits assistance, certificates/forms assistance, naturalization assistance, and tax information provided by visiting attorneys from Bet Tzedek. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for information. There is a waitlist for legal counseling services. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees for activities vary. The suggested donation is $2.50 per meal; no one is turned away due to inability to contribute. The Clinic accepts Medicare, Medi-Cal and most HMO's. There is sliding scale fees for those without medical insurance.
