Specialized Information and Referral ( Families/Friends of Inmates/Ex-Offenders )

The agency provides ex-offender services for adults who have been placed on parole by the California State Department of Corrections. Services include adult parole, computer and related technology classes, drug/alcohol testing, ex-offender counseling, ex-offender reentry programs, remedial education, job search/placement, specialized information and referral, and substance use disorder education/prevention. There are no geographic restrictions.

The agency provides services through the Police and Corrections Team (PACT). Services are provided for the three year parole period for people who have been convicted of felonies and for people who are addicted to drugs who are under the jurisdiction of the civil courts. Services are provided only for parolees and their families. The goal of the agency is to assist parolees in the successful completion of parole and a productive re-integration into society.

Parole agents monitor the behavior of the parolee in the community to ensure that s/he is fulfilling the conditions of parole and have the responsibility of submitting reports and making recommendations related to the status of the parolee.

The agency provides some direct services for clients including supervision, counseling, work furloughs, job placement assistance, and drug and alcohol testing, and also refers clients and their families to a variety of public and private agencies that offer needed services.

The Jobs Plus program provides job search/placement services for ex-offenders by connecting the parolee with a local Jobs Plus center. To be eligible the parolee must be in good standing with their Parole agent, and have a CDC 1502 Activity Report Form for program referral.

The Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery program provides substance use disorder education and prevention services to ex-offenders. The program uses an educational and interactive process method to provide parolees the motivation to change values and behaviors. The program is provided at the agency's work furlough sites in Hollywood and Van Nuys. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information. People are assigned to a parole agent when they are placed on parole. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
