The agency provides family life education for individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include case/care management, co-parenting workshops, court ordered parenting programs, expectant/new parent assistance, general mental health information/education, parent support groups, parenting skills classes, post adoption counseling and support for kinship caregivers, teen expectant/new parent assistance, teen family planning programs, teen pregnancy prevention, welfare rights assistance and youth/student support groups. Most services are targeted, but not restricted, to teenage parents. Age and geographic restrictions apply for some services. There are no geographic restrictions.

Parenting skills development classes are offered for parents of any age child and are designed to accommodate both people who want to enhance their parenting skills, and people who have been ordered to attend classes by the court because of child abuse or neglect.

Co-parenting workshops are provided through the PAIRS program for couples who are parenting or caregiving and live in the San Gabriel or Pomona Valley. Workshops focus on communication skills, conflict resolution and management and stress and anger management. Individualized coaching, job and career advancement support and connections to additional community resources are included.

Case management is provided for pregnant or parenting mothers and fathers age 19 and younger. Staff assess and coordinate care services including advocacy, prenatal care, nutrition counseling, childbirth preparation, psychosocial counseling, emergency food, adoption counseling, individual and conjoint counseling, legal services, parenting classes, newborn medical care, child care, family planning, and academic or vocational counseling. Referrals for additional services are provided as needed.

The post adoption counseling and support for kinship caregivers is provided through the Relative Support Services program (RSS). Services are given to relative and non-relative caregivers who are caring for children ages 0 to 24. Families must reside in the San Gabriel Valley. Services may include in-home case management; parenting classes; support groups; parent cafes; advocacy and basic needs; and emergency services. The RSS program serves families of all ages and sizes.

Community education speakers address issues such as family communication, children's self-esteem, child abuse reporting, mid-life decisions, couple communication, stress management and other mental health issues. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply; eligibility screening and an appointment is required. Call for information for the Relative Support Services for kinship caregivers. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees for parenting skills development are $5 per session. There are no fees for most other services; call for specific information. There are no fees for the Relative Support Services for kinship caregivers.
