Temporary Restraining Orders

Temporary Restraining Orders ( Elder Abuse Victims )

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT

The program provides domestic violence legal services for people of all ages who live in Los Angeles County. Services include crime victim support, and temporary restraining orders. There are no geographic restrictions.

Services include assistance with the forms needed for a temporary restraining order (TRO), and instructions on the filing and services process. People who apply for TROs may include battered women, immediate family members, dating relationships, same-sex relationships and older people who are victimized by elder abuse. Volunteers prepare the legal documents required to obtain a TRO. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to apply. Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis; it is recommended that people arrive early as the process may take several hours. Applicants must bring the full name and identifying information of the person to be served. Notes about the domestic violence including details of incidents, the approximate dates the violence or threats occurred, and copies of any police reports or prior orders are helpful, if available.
