The department provides information about natural resource concerns and issues, and coordinates services for state recreation agencies. It also acts as an administrative liaison by providing technical assistance in the development of special recreational programs and field trips for people who have physical disabilities, people who are mentally retarded and for senior citizens. There are no geographic restrictions.

The CA Citrus State Historic Park is a 377 acre park and provides public tours, school programs, special events, group rentals and a visitor center. The Chino Hills State Park has 14,107 acres of wilderness area that includes over 90 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park offers nature hikes and rides as well as Jr. Ranger and Campfire Programs. Tent camping is available in Chino Hills State Park on a first come, first serve basis.
