Veteran Employment Programs
Provider: TROOPS TO COLLEGE
The program provides apprenticeship opportunities for returning veterans, age 18 and older, at California State University campuses. Service includes apprenticeship training and a veterans employment program leading to eventual employment as a state worker in a variety of occupations in the CSU Facilities and Operations departments. To be eligible the veteran must be discharged other than dishonorably and must maintain good progress in both classroom and on-the-job training.
The CSU currently has ten (10) active apprenticeship trades participating in the training program. The trades are: Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Auto
Mechanic, Heating Ventilation Mechanic, Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration Mechanic, Sheet Metal Worker, Locksmith, Painter, and Operating Engineer
(central plant boiler mechanics).
Currently the program is being conducted at California State University Long Beach. The program is to be implemented at the following CSUs in the greater Los Angeles area: CSU Long Beach, CSULA, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, CSU San Bernardino, CSU Bakersfield, CSU Dominquez Hills, and CSU Channel Islands.
