Volunteer Opportunities ( Older Adult/Aging Issues )

The agency provides services for older adults, age 55 and older, and some services for adult caregivers age 18 and older who live in the greater Long Beach area, Los Angeles County and Orange County. Services include case care management, friendly visiting, specialized information and referral, telephone reassurance, and volunteer opportunities. Geographic restrictions apply.

Services include Long-term comprehensive case management services for adults who receive Medi-Cal and older adults who have disabilities in order to help them remain in independent living. The agency also houses the Volunteer Action for Aging which provides taxi vouchers, friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, volunteer opportunities, and specialized information and referral.

The Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) include case management services for individuals who are 65 or older. They must be certified, or certifiable, for a skilled nursing or intermediate level care facility; a current Medi-Cal recipient, but must not be on a share-of-cost basis for Medi-Cal unless s/he meets her or his share-of-cost by paying a portion of the cost of their in-home services.

Integrated Care Management (ICM) services provides individualized care plans which allow participants to purchase services through Medi-Cal waivers; the cost of maintaining the person at home may not exceed the cost of institutional care. The program includes case management services and regular assessment of the individual's needs and of the care plan. Services may include adult day care, home-delivered meals, household chores and personal care, minor home repairs, reassurance services such as friendly visiting and counseling. Services are restricted to residents of Artesia, Bellflower, Carson, Compton, Harbor City, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Lomita, Long Beach, San Pedro, Signal Hill, South Central Los Angeles areas 90003, 90044, 90047, 90059 and 90061 and Wilmington.

The SCAN program provides similar services for people who are age 18 and older and home-bound. Services include case management, individualized care plans, and needs assessment, and linkage to other agencies who can provide services such as counseling, friendly visiting, home-delivered meals, household chores and minor repairs, transportation assistance, and other necessary services. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to make a referral. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services. Applicants are not required to provide income verification.
