Youth Development

Youth Development ( LGBTQ Youth )

Provider: CAMP BRAVE TRAILS

The agency provides camps for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) youth ages 12 through 20, and their friends and families, in Los Angeles county. Services include summer camps and youth development. Age restrictions apply for all camp attendees; there are no geographic restrictions.

This is a week long overnight summer camp program for LGBTQ youth ages 12 to 18. The program works to encourage meaningful relationships and civic and personal leadership skills. A variety of daily activities including sports, creative and culinary arts, and outdoor skills are offered. Campers also participate in workshops focusing on leadership through creativity, interpersonal relationships, social justice, global awareness and LGBTQ literacy.

The Campers in Leadership Training program is offered to a select group of campers between ages 17 to 18, who want a hands-on opportunity to grow their leadership skills. Participants lead workshops, plan events and assist program staff, under the supervision of senior staff members.

The entire camp also completes a large scale service project, which can range from replanting trees at camp or local schools, or putting on a show for the local senior living home. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There is a fixed fee of $2150 per session (updated yearly), plus a nonrefundable $20 application fee. Scholarships may be available, on an as-needed basis.
