Adult Out of Home Respite Care

The agency povides housing services for adults age 18 to 60 who have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Services include group residences for adults with disabilities, and adult out of home respite care. Services are provided for individuals who live in the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center's catchment area which includes the Central Los Angeles, Hollywood/Wilshire, Glendale and Pasadena health districts and the communities of La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge, Eagle Rock and Burbank. Geographic restrictions apply.

Services include an adult residential facility which can accommodate adults who have mild to moderate mental retardation and require a structured, supportive, supervised living environment. To be eligible, individuals must be ambulatory, and able to feed and clean themselves, to use the toilet without any assistance and must be able to leave the home without assistance in an emergency.

The program operates in a one-story house in a residential neighborhood. Bedrooms are shared by two individuals. Residents must follow house rules such as a set wake up time, limited eating areas in the home, household chores, food preparation and specific individual responsibilities.

Staff evaluate residents basic living skills upon entering the program, monitor their programs and teach residents independent living skills to increase self reliance.

Most residents work at Campbell Center; however, residents may be involved in alternative training or work programs during the day. Staff sees that transportation to and from such training programs is available; however, most residents use public transit.

Temporary respite care is available for individuals who require short-term, supervised housing and meals. Individuals requesting respite care must meet the same eligibility requirements as other residents, must abide by the same house rules and must fulfill the same responsibilities in the household. The length of stay in the home is determined by the Regional Center.
