Health Care Referrals (Public Health Issues)

Provider: CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH - IMMUNIZATION BRANCH

The department provides health education about vaccine providers and requirements, and public health issues for the state of California. Services include disease/disability information, health care referrals, subject specific public awareness/education, online databases and printed materials. There are no geographic restrictions.

The department maintains a separate website that provides comprehensive information about California state vaccine recommendations and requirements for children in preschool through college. Parents and professionals can find information about the California School Immunization Law; California Health and Safety Code, Sections 120325-120375 and California Code of Regulations Title 17. Information about reportable diseases is also available.

The department also manages the Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA) programs for the state of California. It maintains a website with comprehensive information about the program and an online provider location search tool.

The California Immunization Registry (CAIR) is a secure, confidential, centralized statewide online database of immunization information for California Residents. It can only be used by doctors, hospitals, public health departments and other selected programs that serve children. Currently, CAIR does not contain all of California's immunization records. Records are maintained for life. By law, parents have the right to view registry information about their child.

A variety of educational posters and brochures, along with numerous other printed materials are available for download on the website.
