Driving Evaluation

The agency provides public health services to individuals who live in Los Angeles County. The agency is responsible for the surveillance and investigation of suspected and confirmed communicable disease cases, and outbreaks for all reportable diseases and unusual diseases other than TB, STDs, HIV/AIDS, and some vaccine preventable diseases. Services include public health surveillance, physician consultation on treatment for reportable and unusual diseases, sharing information about public health issues, driving evaluations, food borne illness investigation, influenza control, speakers/speakers bureaus and direct work with hospital infection control programs. The service area is Los Angeles County, except the incorporated cities of Long Beach and Pasadena which have their own health departments.

Acute Communicable Disease Control (ACDC) reviews all healthcare provider and laboratory required disease reports, analyzes disease trends, identifies and conducts outbreak investigations, provides expert consultation and policy recommendations, and offers in-service training for health care professionals on communicable disease control. The program does not offer other direct health services to the public.

The department receives physician reports of disorders characterized by lapses of consciousness or other conditions that affect alertness, sensory motor functions used to operate motor vehicles, and the ability to perform daily activities of living. This may include reports of Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders, seizure disorders, brain tumors, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and abnormal metabolic states including hypo and hyperglycemia associated with diabetes.
