Religious Study Groups
Provider: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA YOUTH FOR CHRIST
This is an international Christian-oriented organization that provides youth services for adolescents, age 12 to 18, in Southern California. Services are targeted, but not restricted to Christian youth and low-income youth. The overall ministry of the organization is to assist youth to strengthen Christian values and to grow as whole people. Services include camping programs, childbirth education, youth/student support groups, religious activities and social clubs/events. There are no geographic restrictions.
Weekly meetings provide youth with an opportunity to socialize as well as to discuss issues or problems which are common to young people. Staff provide mentoring for program participants, as needed. Camping experiences may be for a weekend or up to a week in length and the overall focus is to assist young people to develop and maintain a positive relationship with God.
The organization provides childbirth education to teen moms and dads through the TLC (Tender Loving Care) program providing free prepared childbirth classes, weekly support groups, bible studies, individual relationships with Christian women and special speakers. Any teen, married or unmarried, who wants to learn more about childbirth and the adjustment to motherhood is eligible. The course consists of six weekly sessions, however, teens may continue to attend longer for support. The course is offered at St. Mary's Medical Center for the Long Beach area.
The Campus Life program of the San Gabriel and Inland Valley branch offers weekly meetings and activities for in-school, high school age youth. Meetings assist young people to strengthen their personal relationship with God; the group is non-denominational.
