Job Training Formats
Provider: LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE - CALWORKS OFFICE
The college provides employment services for adults in Los Angeles County. Services include job banks, job training formats, prejob guidance and work study programs for TANF recipients. There are no geographic restrictions.
The program provides welfare recipient employment programs for CalWORKs eligible students, case management, educational assessment, educational and career planning, a broad range of training and vocational education programs and job development and placement services. The campus has strong support from local business and industry.
Work-Study programs for TANF recipients provide part-time employment of up to 20 hour per week, for students. The program pays 75% of the students' wages for a period of six months. If the employer is unwilling to pay full wages after this time period expires, the student may be given a new job assignment. A CalWORKs participant may receive Work-Study assistance for a period of two years, while in school.
Support services for TANF recipients also include child care, health and psychological support services, GED evaluation, job development, scholarships, assistance with books, Spanish/English tutors, and referrals to community services.
