Health Facility Licensing
The Division is responsible for licensing non-County-operated nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies, dialysis clinics, psychiatric facilities, and community medical clinics that operate in Los Angeles County. The division has no jurisdiction over county-operated health facilities. There are no geographic restrictions.
The Division provides information for the public about the licensing status of particular facilities and also accepts complaints about unsanitary, unsafe, or abusive conditions in those facilities. The agency can initiate an investigation of the quality of care provided based on complaints received. It also evaluates medical facilities for participation in the Medicare and Medi-Cal programs, and can provide a list of licensed home health agencies.

Application Procedure
Call or walk in to apply for licensing, for information about a facility's licensing status, or to make a complaint. After hours complaints in case of an emergency may be placed at the L A County Emergency After-Hours Number. See the separate entry.
Fees
There are no fees for information or complaint services. There are fees for photocopying documents. The fee for listings of home health agencies is $4.50.
