Student Disability Services

This two year community college which provides post-secondary education for California residents who are high school graduates or who are age 18 or older. Services include college/university registration and enrollment, community colleges, continuing education, student disability services and vocational education.

The college provides a variety of academic and occupational courses and programs; as well as support services; and a variety of community service programs; see the separate entry. Students may earn a vocational certificate and enter the workforce, or may take courses primarily for personal enrichment. The Associate Degree (AA/AS) can be earned in conjunction with preparation for transfer or an occupational program.

Vocational education includes certificate programs in Accounting Clerk, Bookkeeping Clerk, General Office Clerk, Receptionist, Information Clerk, Typist, Work Processor, Data Entry, Secretary, Computer Operator, Computer Programmer, Instructional Aids, Pre-School Teacher, Retail Sales/Customer Service, and Food Service Worker. Vocational Education students may also take Basic Skills, GED Preparation, ESL, and Vocational English as a Second Language (V.E.S.L).

Services for students include financial assistance, a career planning/transfer center, a job placement center, a fitness center and a child care center. Approximately 100 displaced homemakers and single parents who are vocational education students may qualify for free child care services from the Child Development Center. There may be a waiting list. Call for information.

The Disabled Student Programs and Services Office provides special accommodations for eligible students with disabilities based upon the disability-related educational limitations of the student. These services may include academic and vocational counseling, registration assistance, campus and/or community liaison, adapted physical education, adapted educational equipment and computer technology, proctoring, interpreters, and special parking. The college maintains a historical museum in the campus Library that specializes in the history of the San Fernando Valley.
